Rody Horse Toy

Got a young child with plenty of energy to spare? Get them hopping, bopping and rocking with Rody! This inflatable horse is tough enough to withstand any toddler and get them jumping for joy.

The original Rody Hopping Horse from JumpingBalls.com is made in Italy and helps children learnbalance and coordination while having fun. (Sneaky, huh?) It’s the perfect toy for any toddler for that reason – this is the stage at which they’re trying to master those basic motor skills.

Rody is made of super strong and soft vinyl – latex free and no phthalates – and complies with all U.S. and international safety standards. He inflates to a saddle height of 12″ (keep that in mind when deciding if your child is tall enough to do more than sit on him) and is safe for indoor and outdoor use. Just make sure if you take him outside that he isn’t bouncing on uneven surfaces or in places where he might get punctured by sharp objects.

So – Rody isn’t the cheapest hopping toy out there. Is he worth it? He is to me (which is why he’s going on the list for birthday gifts for my niece and nephew). The more than 50 reviews I read all touted his sturdy material and joy of the child. Sounds like he’s a toy that will get a lot of use and be able to take the abuse toddlers dish out.

Based in sunny Florida (and shipping from California) Jumpingballs.com’s goal is to help parents keep their children active, healthy, happy and busy, by making exercise fun!

, began 15 years ago, when our founder tried out a Jumping Ball for the very first time. An avid toy expert (thanks to his Grandmother, may she live long and well!) he knew that he had found something special.

Over a decade later we are bringing this timeless toy back to children (and adults) all over the world. But this time, the Jumping Ball is new and improved, with bold colors, the cutest faces, the coolest designs and made only with the finest materials.

We also carry the most original Bounce Houses for unforgettable parties, family gatherings, or for getting much needed exercise during the winter months in basements, garages or playrooms. Can you imagine your child’s face in the morning waking up to their very own moon bounce?

For toddlers we proudly offer the Rody Pony! Not just for fun, the Rody Pony also helps children develop a good sense of balance and coordination as they learn and grow.

Sensory Integration Activities: Treatment That Works Skills That Matter

29 October, 2010 | admin | No Comment

Sensory Integration Activities are the lifeline to providing and achieving the necessary challenges for your child so they maximize:

  • daily functioning
  • intellectual, social, and emotional development
  • the development of a positive self-esteem
  • a mind and body which is ready for learning
  • positive interactions in the world around him
  • the achievement of normal developmental milestones

The great news is… sensory integration activities are unbelievably funand a necessary part of development for any child, whether they have a sensory processing disorder or not. Sensory integration activities are activities that should be used with any child if normal sensory development is one of your goals (hint… it should be).

From the womb into adulthood, our neurological systems are developing
and processing an overwhelming amount of sensory information every day.
Our system must then interpret this information and make it ready to be
tolerated and used for specific purposes.

If this normal developmental process is hindered in any way, it can cause detrimental effects. Proper intake and use of sensory input is absolutely critical to a child’s maturation process and the building of core, foundational skills. I certainly can not stress this enough… it isthat important!

The best part about sensory integration activities is the creative fun
you can have coming up with ideas, playing with your child using sensory
input, or purchasing unique toys and products anyone would love! (I’ll be honest, sometimes adults need and love these products as much as, if not more than, the child!)

In fact, because these treatment activities are so fun, creative, and unique, it often doesn’t even look like “therapy”. That is why we, as Occupational Therapists are a great profession… it is almost like turning work into play.

Children just think they are having fun when they are actually working strenuously at building essential skills with their bodies and better neurological systems.

It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, consistency and persistence, but in the end, you will have a thriving child who can regulate sensory input much more effectively.

The variety of sensory integration activities is endless… only limited
by your creativity and imagination!
The good news is… because we, as professionals, treat children with sensory processing disorders, as well as children just trying to meet normal developmental milestones, AND we treat them in a variety of settings, we have found thousands of activities to address sensory integration / sensory processing needs!

I truly wish I could share with you every possible activity.  But, seeing as that would be a daunting and impossible task, I will instead talk about some of the most basic, most popular, most requested, fun and proven to work sensory integration activities. This, in itself, will give you a solid foundation for treatment, an understanding of why they are used, and you will be well on your way to enhancing and maximizing your child’s potential!

Bear in mind, each of the following activities are in no particular hierarchy and most of them will have articles, e-books, products or merchants that they will point you to (any not listed will be coming soon!).

Below is just a brief introduction to each of the sensory integration activities. You will find more information throughout this site and through the hundreds of links provided. Well, let’s go!

ADHD Therapy With hoppity hop

29 October, 2010 | admin | No Comment

Exercise balls can be useful tools for children who have ADHD
(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). When sitting on exercise
balls, children can improve their focus and concentration on classroom
tasks. Read on for more information about the advantages of exercise
balls for ADHD therapy.

Benefits of Exercise Balls

Exercise balls can serve as “balancing chairs” for ADHD children who
struggle with remaining still and focused while sitting in traditional
chairs. These balls are available in a range of styles: they can be
manufactured with weighted bottoms, legs, or a stabilizing holder.
Children with ADHD who regularly engage in sitting on exercise balls
have an outlet for excess energy, as they are able to fidget and move
around much more freely than is possible when seated in a high-backed
plastic or wooden chair. Because ADHD children have difficulty
concentrating on more than one task at a time, exercise balls allow
these students to focus their attention on assignments without also
needing to worry about keeping still.

Exercise balls have shown to be effective in promoting good posture
and improving sensory-related issues. They provide a comfortable yet
secure seating area for ADHD children, and can be purchased for an
affordable price. Balls with a weighted bottom can also be used for
exercises that encourage motor coordination, balance, eye contact, and
attention building skills.

Exercise Balls in the Home and Classroom

Children with ADHD who respond well to sitting on exercise balls may
be able to use them in the classroom environment, provided that this
accommodation is agreed upson by members of an IEP or 504 team. Some
public school resource rooms have an exercise ball available for
children to use on an as-needed basis. Occupational therapists can
also use an exercise ball as part of their sessions with ADHD students.

Parents may wish to provide these exercise chairs in the home so that
children can release physical energy in a productive manner while
completing written assignments, reading a book, or working on
therapeutic techniques. Many children with ADHD react positively to
exercise balls, as they are not only helpful, but also fun to use.

Jumping Balls – Hoppity Hop – Hopper Ball

29 October, 2010 | admin | 1 Comment

Get on the Ball!

If you, have to spend a lot of time at a desk, sitting at a standard-
issue office chair can be torture. You may have been the kid in class
who endlessly twisted and turned on your chair in math class. Or you
may have driven your parents crazy at the dinner table because no
matter how much they pleaded with you, you just could not sit still.
And now you have a job that requires you to sit at a desk, looking at
a screen, for the better part of eight hours a day.

Maybe you need something different to sit on.

But for people whose ADHD runs toward physical hyperactivity; even the
most forgiving chair can feel confining. Being able to move back and
forth on a chair can have a calming effect on people with ADHD that
improves focus and effectiveness.

If one of the functions of the chair is to facilitate focused,
deliberate thought by allowing the dissipation of a small amount of
kinetic energy, then the exercise ball is the perfect “ADHD office
chair.” Like “lefty” scissors for southpaws, it’s a simple machine
well-designed for the specific needs of a less conventional user.

· Your posture improves immediately – it’s very difficult to
slouch on a ball, though not impossible. Result for most have been
that they sit better everywhere – chairs, benches, even driving a car.

· Your core muscles are strengthened – the act of remaining
upright on the ball puts several muscle groups to work without
overstraining them.

· It’s great for taking “active” breaks – while just sitting on
the ball keeps the core engaged.

-So we say, take all these plus the fun in a hoppity hop, hippity hop
or bouncy ball and you have health and entertainment at the same time!
